2020 Student Journalism Awards

This program is for students studying writing, graphic design, video and social media communication. Work created for both print and digital publications is eligible.

Participation in the Student Journalism Awards is an important step in a student’s career. It offers evaluation of their work by potential employers and journalists outside the school environment. The program helps students build their resume and create awareness of their talent. One winning entrant will receive an expense paid trip to the Catholic Media Conference, June 2020, in Portland, Oregon.

The Student Journalism Awards are sponsored by the Catholic Press Association and are judged by working members of the association. The program is a component of an international recognition program.

Winning entries are announced in mid-April 2020 and award certificates are mailed in early May. Acknowledgement is given during the Catholic Media Conference; winners’ names are published on the CPA website and in the annual award issue of The Catholic Journalist.

Flyer News, “2018-19 Print Issues 5-7” by Griffin Quinn, Kaitlin Gawkins, Sean Newhouse,  Chey Ward, Melody Conrad, Mary McLoughlin,  Connor Hanson,  Christian Cubacub,  Mary Guida, Olivia Pettigrew. their comments below:

"We would like to thank you for ending our year on such a happy note. We are honored that you chose us to be the recipient of the inaugural award for “Best University Student Publication.” In the year to come, we hope we live up to the title.

The community-building function of the media is often ignored in discussions about the journalism profession. Yet it is one of the most important uses of media. On Catholic college campuses and in the Church globally, there is a strong need for community and the Catholic press is one of the strongest drivers that unifies the Church’s diverse body."
