Membership Classes

Catholic Press Association offers a variety of membership choices to fit your needs. To download an application, visit our application page. The annual dues schedule is listed at the bottom of the page.

Publisher Members

Catholic newspapers, magazines and publishers of books, pamphlets or general Catholic literature, including publishers that publish only electronically, are eligible to become Publisher Members. Publisher Memberships are typically held by a single publication: newspaper, magazine, or newsletter. A publication's dues are calculated by circulation (see table below).

Alternatively, a Publisher Member that produces more than one of the media listed above or exclusively books, television, radio, or electronic publications is eligible for a General Publisher Membership. A General Publisher receives a flat rate for their dues.

Each Publisher Member must designate a Registered Representative who is the primary contact between the CPA and the membership-holding publication or organization. The Registered Representative speaks and votes on behalf of the Publisher Member.

Service Members

Supplier or service companies, institutions, organizations or persons interested in strengthening or serving the Catholic press are eligible to become Service Members. Each Service Member must designate a Registered Representative who speaks on behalf of the membership-holding organization.

Service Members do not receive voting rights.

Staff Members

Individuals who are paid staff of a CPA Publisher Member or Service Member are eligible for Staff Membership. The applicant's employment status must be confirmed by the Registered Representative of the Publisher or Service Member.

Publisher Member staff receive voting rights, Service Member staff do not hold voting rights.

Freelance Members

Individuals who actively contribute to current Publisher Members, but not as a paid employee, are eligible to become Freelance Members. Freelance Members may contribute as writers, photographers, editors, or business contributors or consultants. Freelance applicants are required to submit a statement from a CPA Publisher Member to confirm freelance assignments.

Freelance Members receive voting rights.

Affiliate Members

Individuals who are not employed by or contributing to a Publisher Member are eligible to become Affiliate Members. Individuals working for the secular press who are interested in the welfare of the Catholic press as well as bloggers, parish communicators, diocesan communications personnel, and other individuals not working for a Publisher Member shall also be eligible to become Affiliate Members.

Affiliate Members do not receive voting rights.

Honorary Members

The Board of Directors may, from time to time, elect Honorary members.
