Welcome to the 2019 Student and Alumni Awards

This program opens November 5, 2018. Packet links now available below.

Congratulations to our 2018 Student Awards top prize winner, Dannielle Garcia. Her comments below from her winning experience.

“Winning the Catholic Press Award for best Entry of the Year and for Best Story was both humbling and shocking. It was one of my first video stories as a senior in college. It was centered around a fellow student and sorority sister, who is also blind. One building on campus didn’t have Braille signs, which she relied on to guide her to class. When they did finally put Braille, not many people noticed, but Sophie did. I did the story not expecting any awards, It wasn’t perfect and there’s a lot of things I see now that I wish I could’ve done better. But telling Sophie’s story is what made me realize I was on the right career path. Thank you to the Catholic Press Association for this huge honor and seeing my potential. And thank you to Sophie Trist for letting me tell her story. This prize has helped me continue to follow my dreams as a TV reporter and I am eternally grateful!

- Dannielle García”

The CPA Student and Alumni Awards, formerly known as the Student Awards, is an effort of the Young Communicators project, which will increase educational opportunities for young professionals, students and alumni and encourage networking with CPA professionals. Current members of the Catholic Press Association have volunteered to judge and provide critiques for all entries in the CPA Student and Alumni Awards. This program is a valuable opportunity for students to connect to professionals in the field and receive feedback on their work.

Winners of the CPA Student and Alumni Awards program will be announced in mid-April and will receive an Award Certificate shortly thereafter. Winners are also acknowledged at the Catholic Media Conference in June, on the CPA website and published in The Catholic Journalist.
