|Tribute to Tim Russert|
The staff of the Diocese of Buffalo Office of Communications, along with Mark Zimmermann, editor of Washington, D.C.’s Catholic Standard, will present a tribute to the hometown hero at the 2015 Catholic Media Conference during the Welcome Dinner on Wednesday, June 24.
Born and educated in South Buffalo, Russert attended schools in his Irish neighborhood and West Seneca, where one Mercy nun saw potential in the young man and made him editor of the new school newspaper, the Bonette. The activity sparked an interest that led him to build an incredible career, moderating Meet the Press for 16 years.
Russert died June 13, 2008, of a heart attack after recording voice overs for Meet the Press. He is survived by his wife, Maureen Orth, a special correspondent for Vanity Fair, and son Luke Russert, who now works as a congressional correspondent for NBC News.
